Decima

Decima is Guerrilla Games’ in-house engine. It ran Killzone: Shadow Fall in 2013 and the Horizon games, and Guerrilla shares it with Kojima Productions, which built both Death Stranding games on it.

History

Inside Guerrilla the engine was simply “the engine” until other studios needed it. Until Dawn was announced on it in August 2015, and in December 2016 Hideo Kojima said Kojima Productions would use it for Death Stranding. In February 2017 Guerrilla published “Introducing Decima”, giving the engine its name; Wikipedia says the name refers to Dejima, the Dutch trading post in Japan.

Horizon Forbidden West (2022) ran on an updated version and used the open-source Jolt physics engine. Death Stranding 2: On the Beach came out in June 2025 on a further improved version for the PlayStation 5.
