Animation cancelling
What is animation cancelling? Interrupting an action mid-animation to start another, from fighting-game cancels on, and its opposite, animation priority.
Animation cancelling means stopping a character’s action partway through its animation to start a different one. Fighting games build it into their combo systems as cancels. The opposite design choice is animation priority, where an animation must play out in full before the game accepts new input.
