Rocket jumping
What is rocket jumping? Firing an explosive at your own feet to fly higher, from Quake and Marathon to Team Fortress 2, and where it started.
Rocket jumping means firing an explosive, usually a rocket, at your feet or a nearby surface so the blast launches you higher or farther than a normal jump.
Where the term comes from
Where it began is disputed: Wikipedia says the origin is unclear and gives Doom, Marathon and Rise of the Triad as early cases. In September 1997 Computer Gaming World wrote that rocket jumping “was an accident in Quake” and that id was keeping it for Quake II.
